Farmer leading a pedigree holstein cow

The People

We work with a team of staff and industry professionals to ensure the best care, standards and overall productivity is achieved. The cows are at the heart of our business but the people are most definitely the back bone.

We are passionate about the welfare of our cows. We have always felt that farming proactively is more beneficial than farming reactively. To support me in my beliefs I work closely with Nantwich Veterinary Practice. We have weekly visits from the vets to monitor fertility. We are proactive in both disease testing and vaccination.

The Seaton Family:

Ed and his wife Kelly with their two young boys and daughter live on the farm.

Ed's passion has always been breeding good dairy cows. He now oversees the business management of Seaton Farms as well as overseeing the day to day running of the farm.

Kelly assists Ed with the business management side of the business as well as mucking in when and where needed and managing the website and social media for the farm too.

The boys very much enjoy 'helping' where they can with calves and in the parlour. they particularly enjoy scraping muck, playing with the hose and sweeping the yard.

Ed's parents Peter and Pam still play an active role in the day to day running of the farm with help and support whenever needed. Peter particularly enjoys checking heifers on his quad bike and generally running errands and keeping everyone going. Pam runs a successful cake stand on the Shropshire Union Canal which is very popular amongst locals and canal users alike.

Kynsal Farm Staff:

We currently employ one fulltime member of staff.

Gary, the herdsman milks twice a day Monday to Friday and leads on foot health, drying off and general wellbeing of the cows. He has a particular interest in transitional cow wellbeing and foot trimming.

We were pleased to welcome Jack Oneill back to Seaton Farms mid 2024, Jack came to us as a student before completing his degree at Harper Adams. He remained a key member of our show team whilst he gained experience at other herds and has come back to us having gained that experience. Jack leads on feed management, silage clamp management and continues to learn from Gary as they work together.

We also have a great team of support staff that work on a part time basis but are no less a huge part of the team.

Nantwich Farm Vets:

We work alongside two key vets at Nantwich to maintain a higher health herd status and prevention over cure.

Rob George:

Nantwich Farm Vets have been vetting for the Seaton family for many years. When I first knew the family their individual cow management was exceptional, rewarded with many successes in the show ring at local and national level. Ed has brought that attention to detail and dedication   into large herd Dairy management. The herd are on weekly fertility/advisory visits where we pregnancy diagnose and inspect ovarian function via ultrasonography. General heat detection is performed by the cogent precision collars as well as visual monitoring. Cows not served by 63 to 70 days are synchronised for timed insemination. Current pregnancy rates are running at 24% With heat detection of 63%.

The herd is routinely mobility scored, with on average a 4%  score of 2 and 3. Herd mastitis rate is 9%. The herd is vaccinated against IBR & BVD. Bulk tank is routinely checked for Leptospirosis & BVD virus. Calves have been log & BVD tested since January 2018. Ed’s pursuit of excellence in all aspects of cow health, husbandry and production encourages excellent discussions on the weekly visits and keeps us all on our toes!!

Will Denny - Foot Trimmer

We have worked with Will for several years, his knowledge and expertise along with his passion for good foot health makes him a key player in our team.

It’s always rewarding coming to Kysnal farm and working with people that have a passion for the industry. Every generation can be seen busy on the farm. Ed & the teams attention to detail with husbandry is so refreshing and is key for keeping the foot health care protocols in place
