Prior to the Styche prefix Ed's father Peter and Uncle John registered cows under the prefix Hobson which was first established in 1976. many of the original families such as Alice, Cactus, Hilgonda, Mona and Stella are still prominent amongst the herd today.

Ed registerd the Styche prefix in 1997 when Styche Jed Sally was born and from 2001 everything has been registerd under the Styche prefix

Ed did his year out from Reaseheath college at Grantchester Holsteins in 1996, here he fell in love with the Holstein cow and took the opportunity to purchase an in-calf heifer by the name of Grantchester Prelude Special who is the matriarch of the Sally family at Styche. Other families purchased from Grantchester over the years include: Farrah, Pam, Balise and Helsa.

​

More recent show success has been with a cow whos pedigree goes back to the original Fresian herd by the name of Styche Armour Hilgonda who achieved Grand Champion at UK Dairy Day in 2022 and Honourable Mention the following year.
