Our Business

"We are committed to working with a small but strong team of industry professionals who help us to manage our herd with all of the specialised knowledge available to us. We strive to achieve a good working relationship between all those that we work with, we feel that working together produces better results."

Kelly Seaton

We are passionate about focusing on the day-to-day farming tasks whilst striving to achieve sustainable physical and financial key performance targets. We have been a registered and milk recorded pedigree Holstein herd for 40 years which we feel gives us complete traceability. Together with Genomic testing, this gives us the confidence to use the modern tools available such as ‘sexed’ and ‘beef on dairy’ semen to further improve our herd for longevity and modern efficient milk production.

We continue to efficiently upgrade our high welfare dairy unit using existing buildings and upgrading old cubicle housing. We focus on producing high quality forage on the farm which we know has great benefits for producing milk and good herd health and reduce purchased feed input.

We understand that in the current climate, we need to be more business savvy. We work closely with farm business consultant Patrick Snodgrass (Specialist Farm Enterprises Ltd), we find it advantageous not only to help us forward plan our business but also to give us complete transparency with our finances. We  continually work to maximise efficient use of our resources which enables us to invest in the business to further reduce our cost of production. Our aims and objectives are clear which is to ensure a sustainable business model.

We are acutely aware that as dairy farmers, we have a responsibility to conserve the environment and are continually working with our agronomist and other companies to ensure that we have a progressive plan in place to further reduce our environmental impact. Since purchasing Kynsal Farm we have introduced a manure and nutrient management plan. We were one of the first farms in the area to grow Lucerne due to its low reliance on nitrogen and lower soil erosion. We now incorporate Lucerne as part of our herbal ley swards.

Ultimately we want to excel in every aspect of our business, not just milking cows. We believe a holistic approach to dairy farming is essential to secure a successful and sustainable future.

With Ed's depth of farming knowledge and experience and Kelly's career background that has enabled her to manage the office side of the business, we are always happy to collaborate or work alongside other businesses that have the same drive and passions as ourselves. Together we are keen to grow our knowledge and experiences with others moving forward towards a better farming future.
